Great Pursuit by Dog

By CODE 4 K9 | SWAT/K9 Integration & Advanced Police K9 Training

This video shows the Marion County Sheriff’s Department pursuing (in a vehicle) a burglary suspect. Like many other agencies, once the air unit picked up the vehicle, patrol deputies backed off the pursuit and probably paralleled the vehicle until it stopped.

Once the vehicle stopped, the K9 unit pushed up and began its search for the suspect, who was on foot. The air unit maintained visual observation of the suspect after he bailed from the vehicle and directed the K9 unit to his location. The K9 handler was within eyesight of the suspect, and he shouted out his K9 warnings. In response, the suspect began to flee from the K9 handler. The handler gave chase and continued to give K9 warnings, which were not complied with.

The handler then dropped the leash and commanded his K9 to apprehend the suspect. The handler’s K9 pursued the suspect around obstacles, through a residential yard, and over a fence. The K9 was able to catch and apprehend the suspect before the suspect could cross another road and enter a residential yard. The dog remained on bite until the suspect was handcuffed by the handler, at which point he was removed from the bite. This was a perfect deployment. The K9 maintained his pursuit of the suspect until the point of capture—great job by this K9 team. Stay safe.
